Mary is getting tired of eating out and often not getting dishes she expected and/or likes. She was told to say "mai pet" in restaurants, which means "no spice," but that doesn't seem to work all the time. She is planning on getting a hot plate and skillet, then shopping in the market and fixing at least some of our meals in our apartment. Of course that will be just fine with George.
They sell much more than just food in the markets. Mary found some lovely cut orchids on this trip and brought a few bunches back for our CELTA coordinator, Jaree.
On Saturday evening, Oct. 27th, we went out on the town. We got a taxi ride into the Old City and had dinner at Funan, a French restaurant.
Thais take their shoes off before entering most buildings:
Then we walked around the Old City.
We passed by Wat Chedi Luang
and happened upon a beautiful Buddhist gathering, with candles on a hillside in front of a Buddha statue.
Then we took a tuk-tuk to the bustling Night Market:
"we need to have an English-speaking guide walk us though the market in Khemmarat (where we are now)"
ReplyDeleteDo you still need it now?
You did a great job showing us around last night, Wachinee. Thanks so much. I imagine we'll need further instruction, however, since there is a lot of food in the market that is new to us.
